Katana: Anna van der Breggen’s secret weapon
31:15,12. This finish time brought Anna van der Breggen a bronze medal in Tokyo. Her secret weapon for the Olympic time trial? Bioracer’s Speedmaster 3.0 Katana Skinsuit. According to wind tunnel data, this made her faster and gave her the winning advantage over her pursuer Grace Brown.
Huge performance increase
In the four years between Rio and Tokyo, Bioracer developed a 3.0 version of the Speedmaster Skinsuit: Katana. New lightweight aerodynamic fabrics and innovative patterns improve the athlete’s performance even more. Brand new are the ultrasonically welded and taped seams reducing the aerodynamic drag.
Aero tests in the wind tunnel with Anna van der Breggen proved a huge performance increase: between 5 and 9.8 Watts depending on the air speed. This means that the Speedmaster Katana suit made Anna between 8 and 13 seconds faster on her Olympic time trail. It made the difference between a 4th place and a medal.
Besides the improved aerodynamics, the Speedmaster Katana suit incorporates multiple new technologies to increase the performance of the cyclist. The suit offers support around the shoulders and back, allowing the rider to sit in an even more aerodynamic position without compromising comfort.
The suit also features Graphene technology, developed to keep the cyclist’s core temperature optimal in hot conditions. Thanks to its highly conductive nature, the graphene pulls away the heat from the rider’s body and helps to dissipate it faster. This way, Anna could fully focus on racing her way to cycling history without losing precious energy caused by heatstroke.
